heh

Well I wasn't a million miles away with my "cheap minimoog" idea. Moog's new Sub37 looks like the synth I've been hoping for since, well, actually since the old days. Not that I can afford it now or fit it in. Don't even know where the CS30 will go. Hope he gets round to sending it today....

So anyway, I did some work this week. Not as much as I should. Tried to get some info about a certain "monkey's paw" but the distributor knew nothing and I have so far failed to contact the company concerned (its "contact" link simply takes you to the shop!). Sigh. Looks like some cool stuff coming that I hope to get my hands on even if I don't get the Moog. :)

Thought of a possible new title for the novel. It actually works far better and makes me smile, even though it will mean a tweak to the cover idea. It's this:

From Beer To Eternity

Well, I like it. The old title seemed more serious than the book itself but this fits perfectly. Will see if I still like it in a week or so. Would love to have time to really work on it, still some parts not quite in the shape I want them but others are spot on barring some polish and wordcraft.

Got paid for the track tweak I did, which is something. Also sold the theremin plus, maybe a mistake as I should have persevered but the little toy one is fine for my purposes and I don't feel any pressure to learn it properly. I know: cop out. Hope my gong arrives today, bloody slow.

Can't think of much else. Oh, the "old friend" did eventually respond but it's the usual few lines about nothing doomed to peter out. I can't be bothered any more, life's too short. Why I'm telling you this I have no idea, obviously just want to get it off my chest in a vague and unsatisfactory way. Hey ho. Onwards! Oh wait, it's Friday and I don't do much on Fridays. Swimming in the afternoon sorta kills off any impetus or chance to play but it's good for me, unhealthy git I've become.

Later, gong came and it's excellent. CS30 here Monday but I'll need to get my own transformer. Watched Sherlock Holmes, not the shitty series but the film, which was excellent.

Stoned and listening to latest mix of Levant. It's really bloody good, the overdubs working well. Heh. I may have said heh earlier.

Craziness

I was possessed by some kind of madness today and shelled out more money than I typically would when a lovely example of a Yamaha CS30 turned up. Had to borrow some so probably gonna flog something to pay for it, not sure what yet but the Bass Station 2 is most likely. Even though I like it, I'm keeping my fingers crossed there will be a rack version one day.

This is the actual synth BTW, one of a very few I've been looking for (missed that one in Liverpool last year due to the guy's greed). Watch a cheap Minimoog turn up next week now!

Did some work on a review but not as much as I should.

Hey ho. May have to put a hold on that microsampler I think I've secured in Norway. No word from bloke about theremin arrival but hopefully it has and he's happy.

Now have to go and make some room in the studio! Good job I only got a small gong.

Another week of work and play

Perhaps I got the ratio wrong, a little more play than work. Headshock sessions went well, got gold from each. At least it appears after a few listens. The addition of acoustic stuff (or "real instruments" as they're sometimes called) is making a really big difference and I'm fairly sure we have enough quality stuff to make a brilliant compilation. Just a matter of getting round to it. Sold the theremin, will probably use the cash to get a Microsampler (again) as they really are just so useful and there's no equivalent (and Korg won't be making any more cos they didn't do well).

Finished another track so have three "tension and mystery" ones. Will do a couple more and then send off to see if they like. Logic crashed horribly and I thought I'd lost one entirely but managed to recover it by means of importing to a new song as the old fecker would not open. Maybe time to change DAWs.

may even use Maschine for my work, imagine that! But Cubase is calling...

A few more reviews trickling in, nothing too substantial but it'll give me time to complete the two I have left, hoping they'll forget that other crappy softsynth.

might be chance of seeing aurora tonight, if clear. Which would be amazing!

Here's me yesterday, taken by Tim.

It was a happy recording session...

2014, oops it's here

So a strange day in a sense. Unexpected brush-off from dear old friend but turned emotion into ruthless novel editing and tweaking. Solved problem of the slow Curio chapters by making them into deleted scenes. These will be available at the end, past the scenes that are deliberately positioned out of chronological order. Ah, sweet confusion I name thee life! I am increasingly happy with it. We'll see if anyone agrees, I liked the last one too although I accept the highlighted flaws exist. Maybe they all have to have flaws?

Yes, as you can see, not a work evening at all.
I figured I have one review almost done, another started, it'll suffice. Need deadlines anyway. I should perhaps let a few readers see the text, or is it too early? Should do basic flow and error check anyway, and there are sections that require proper quality adjustments.

So Happy New Year, no exclamation marks please.
